Doro Surcel

Doro started his theatre career working for The National Theatre of Cluj and The National Theatre of Bucharest, where he played Lysander in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, Cheswick in A FLEW OVER A CUCKOO’S NEST and Dromio in THE COMEDY OF ERRORS. Before landing on our shores he worked in New Zealand for seven years as an actor and director, most notably playing Rosencrantz in ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDERNSTERN ARE DEAD, Vincent van Gogh in VINCENT IN BRIXTON, Werner Heisenberg in COPENHAGEN, Riff Raff in THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, and Edmund in KING LEAR.

In 2006, he was awarded New Zealand’s prestigious Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards’ Accolade for outstanding performance in GLOOMY SUNDAY by Peter Muller. In Melbourne, Doro performed in various productions at LA MAMA and THE CARLTON COURTHOUSE. Most recently, Doro played Macbeth in the Australian Shakespeare Company’s production of MACBETH by William Shakespeare.
