Andrew Mayes |
|
Andrew was born in 1987 and is currently completing an Arts degree at Monash University, majoring in politics and criminology. However theatre has been a large part of his life for the best part of ten years. A role in the chorus of his school production of “Guys & Dolls” when he was twelve lured him to the stage and he hasn’t wanted to leave it since. He studied theatre and undertook extra speech and drama classes whilst at school, receiving distinctions in examinations in individual acting skills from Trinity College London. He was fortunate to attend a school committed to the arts, which gave him the opportunity to perform in several productions every year including musicals, Shakespeare, contemporary plays and culminating in the role of Hale in “The Crucible” in his final school year. Eager to venture beyond the school stage, Andrew has been involved with a number of productions with highly regarded amateur theatre companies in Melbourne since he was thirteen. Dickens has been a favourite, from the role of “Young Pip” in Waverley Theatre’s “Great Expectations” to the lead role of David Copperfield for the World Convention of The Dickens Society held at Melbourne University several years ago. He secured the titular role in Malvern Theatre’s “The Winslow Boy” and was also in their production of “The Rose Tattoo”.

More recently he has appeared in Williamstown Little Theatre’s “The Drawer Boy” in a lead role and at the time of penning this is extremely excited as opening night draws near of Heidelberg Theatre’s epic production of “Cloudstreet.” He has received several nominations from these companies for his roles. Away from the stage, Andrew lives life to the full. His other loves are his family, his wide range of friends from so many different walks of life, travelling and his passion for nearly all sports, both as a spectator and participant; cricket, golf, rugby, bike-riding and especially AFL. He is an incredibly passionate and compassionate young man, with a natural and wonderful gift to engage and interact with people of all ages from 3 to 93 which adds ease and depth to his acting roles. He is looking forward to building on his life experiences through travel and his acting experiences by undertaking as many courses as possible to develop his skills.
