Sarah Breen

Sarah was born in the Republic of Ireland. Living in the Irish countryside and attending a catholic convent school, Sarah longed to be an actor from a very young age and was always involved in various stage performances and Irish dancing competitions.  At the age of 8, she trained in Speech and Drama and just before her 11th birthday, she immigrated to Australia in 1995 with her family.

In Australia, Sarah attended Sandringham Secondary College and was an active drama and dance student taking full advantage of their industry renowned drama faculty. Sarah played the lead role of Mother Peter in Mary O’ Malley’s Once A Catholic and has since had a deep appreciation for physical comedy. After winning the Outstanding Student in the Arts Award, it wasn’t until 2004 that she landed the emotionally demanding lead role of Layla in David King’s independent feature film, Purge.

As well as writing her own plays and poetry in her spare time, over the last few years Sarah has had lead roles in a number of Australian short films. In an effort to gain a greater understanding of the mechanics of production and how it affects the actor, Sarah has volunteered her time as a publicist for The Melbourne International Comedy Festival and The Melbourne Fringe Festival. She has also worked as a theatre reviewer and has volunteered off screen for a number of film productions.

Due to extensive travelling, Sarah has a keen ear for accents and great comedic physicality. She likes to lead a busy life with a love of the outdoors she holds motorcycle, boat and Jet Ski licences and has trained in martial arts. Sarah values education and has trained as an actor at The Australian Centre of Performing Arts and is also an active member of La Trobe University Student Theatre and Film.

In the last very busy 12 months Sarah has written and performed in her own comedy Traffic Island, a satirical play on the governments transport plan. She was also commissioned to write, produce and perform in a series of comedy sketches for Tertiary Information Services. Other performances in the last year include lead roles in, Ship of Fools by Andrew Bovell, The Ecstatic Bible by Howard Barker and Richard III by William Shakespeare both directed by Green Room Award Winner Bob Pavlich. Sarah is currently studying Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Law majoring in Drama & Theatre at La Trobe University.
